Online advertising is what makes the net go round. The Internet
companies and individuals are using business models that would
monetize users profile, content, and network in a number of ways.
Social networks are capable of analyzing demographic and web traffic
which advertisers use to target consumers. The User Profile is
valuable piece of property based on the content and size of the
network. Individuals currently advertise themselves on the net with
public profiles, and individuals with large networks would be able to
monetize their property through advertising.
Recently, Facebook members have placed ads on their own profile page.
Weblo is Montreal based web ad networking firm that allows users to
place ads on their blogs and social networking profile pages. Weblo makes
Ads based on traffic generated to personal pages. The company
feels that individuals should be able to earn money for spending time
on the internet and personal network they build.
Other examples
Forbidden
Christine Dolce is well connected on the internet. The former make up
counter cosmologist has a millions of “friends” on her buddy list on
MySpace. Chrisatine Dolce was an early user of MySpace in 2003 with
the profile name Forbidden. Chrisitine Dolce placed provocative
pictures of herself and amusing content on her profile page, and she
attracted a following of users who would add her as a friend. Being
an early user, her Profile Forbidden appear on the top of list of many
of profiles on friends online and premium real estate that is easily
seen has been amassing friends to the tune of over a million.
Christine Dolce quit her job and teamed up with a new manager and
former concert promoter she met on MySpace to enchase on her
popularity. He helped her sign deals to promote consumer products with
likes of Axe body spray and Zippo lighters. She appears in a number of
online campaigns and events for promoting brands.
Ninja Power
Two friends in the media industry teamed up to make videos with a ski
mask in the apartment under the title “Ask Ninja”. The creators are
Kent Nichols and Douglas Sarine. Mr. Nichols had worked as a
production assistant on a few TV pilots and Mr. Sarine had worked as a
paralegal for Disney. Mr. Nichols filmed the improvised episode of Ask
Ninja in his apartments as Mr. Sardines donned the ski mask, and later
edited on the laptop for posting on their blog and YouTube. Later, the
Messrs submitted a podcast to Apple iTunes and launched an official
website. The editors of Apples iTunes picked up on the team and
selected the series for “new and notable” podcast on their featured
placement on podcast page. The positioning on the podcast landing
page, lead the Ask Nija series to being on the top subscribed podcast
list. The duo plan to expand efforts on their concept, and they
started selling ads and merchandising T shirts on the Ask Ninja
series.
Lets make some money
Individuals are gaining fame though the internet through videos,
blogs, or social networks. Individuals are taking an interest in
their own presence on the internet. A number would like to take
advantage of the medium and earn some money and possibly make a living
off their online presence. The viral nature of the medium increases
the velocity of content and number of viewers. It only makes sense in
the future that individuals and users will capitalize on the self
advertising nature of medium.
