In the Food Business
By Azam on April 26, 2011The future is in food or some have said more recently. I am not really talking about agriculture and need to feed the world fast growing populations. I am talking about hunting and gathering online and social networking to find food we eat online. Lets face it, everybody needs to eat and the best help maybe foraging online and using a little help from friends to find the best sources.
Money is pouring into food related startup for some time and will likely pick up. Initially, most food related content was based on blogs and traditional sources like Zagat guide shifting online. Newer versions of restaurant recommendations where online from the likes of Grub Hub, Gayot, Chow Hound, Eater, etc. The iPhone App launched popular Urban Spoon making the task of eating and deciding where much easier.
There are also some investments from traditional firms that are expanding offerings
Epicurious with recipes and grocery list
OpenTable offers reservations and other features to bring clients to restaurant establishments.
Kind of new but getting old like spam
Groupon has been able to attract numbers by offering steep discounts of half off.
The Mobile is changing things
The mobile device made things much more interesting in the food realm.
Some new Food related Startups:
Picture the dish your eating with your smart phone app
