Dell is known for its computers and has made a significant dent in the market for desktop and more recently laptops. Dell has offered electronic by other brands though the dell website. It will be interesting to see how Dell performs in the crowded cell phone space. The computer industry has changed dramatically as devices are getting small ad mobility is growing market. The netbook has been a success of a new category that relies on a different chip that is less powerful and OS that is easy to use without being too heavy. Dell signals a new direction of mobility and consumer electronics as it enters the cell phone market.
Verizon
Verizon has taken a back seat as the iphone invigorated the smart phone market and exclusive attracting new users. The new development expands the manner in the relationship between carriers and mobile devices manufacturers as they compete to gain new users for their respective service and device.

The new management has yet to make a significant dent in the market with a new approach. Motorola has announced intentions of developing a device along the android design. This maybe an effective strategy form Motorola after disappointing efforts on mobile device side. With the popularity of the android, Motorola has less risk involved in long and arduous development cycle for new designs. Hopefully, Motorola will be able to deliver an interesting version of the android to justify their existence as a cell phone device market rather than components for wireless devices.
The big winner of the android will be Google with market acceptance and ability to promote applications that will become more critical in mobile device offering. Smart phone will require apps to drive sales and users appeal in users experience on the mobile device. Google acceptance through the various components of device industry will likely increase as carriers and device manufactures compete for a differentiated solution for users. Apple will have to maintain momentum with innovation and switching cost involved with iphone product. Apple large success was at delivering to consumer what they wanted without asking. It remains to be seen if the competitors will be able to keep up with Apples lead and off a more compelling offering.
