Twitter raises $35M to expand and further commercialize the short message systems with venture investors from Benchmark and IVP with previous backers Union Square and Spark Capital participating. Twitter has dramatically evolved into its own ecosystem of messages system for a wide variety of use and application built upon the message. Twitter traffic has exploded as result of wide use and open use for an extensive number of use and applications. Twitter plans to start to commercialize the service to bring in revenues.

Twitter has been an amazing story with short limited charters the 140 involved. The beauty of Twitter has been its simplicity of its message service. In reality it is not too much different than the sms service being offered by wireless carriers. Twitter is different in the sense it is a web application as well that offer a short message service that allows users to follow and update each other on items of interest. The service has been widely useful in a number of situations and applications: China Earthquake, the Mumbai hotel attacks, the US Presidential Elections, service outage, customer service, etc. Also, Twitter has lead to the further evolution of applications built upon the service to share info and other forms of media. Ginx is an example of a how the twitter tweet can be used to refer and lead to another page of interest that goes beyond 140 characters. Twitter is being used to book mark and annotate the web for reference and sharing purpose. Twitter has become a unique way to experience the web and share info with others by taking advantage of short message that is ideally suited for the wireless and mobile medium and also be accessed on the web.
