Space Time Insights allows the visualization of data that transcends both Space and Time
By Azam on February 2, 2009The importance of geographical maps with data analysis is proving to be increasingly important tool for public service and private enterprise. Space Time Insight (STI) is developing software that allows for the visualization and pinpoint data of interest on geographic overlay to better interpret data. The company is currently working with utilities to develop technology that will help firms pinpoint issues related to floods, fire, earthquakes, and other extreme acts of nature.
Most firms analysis data from separate sources and lack a single organized source that can be viewed in a more effective and simplified form visually. Technology is enhancing our ability to comprehend massive amounts of data and bring a new level of awareness that would be increasing useful in a wide variety of applications. The combination of satellite and remote sensing and widely available cheap technology is creating a new level of access of data and interpretation. For example, current technology is making it very easy to create 3D modeling of the surrounding environment in real time setting and ability to model effects based on previous data stored. The technology is being currently developed in electric utility service to handle outages and power management.
Utilities companies will benefit in more easily identify problems by pinpointing location of outages and ability to quickly develop strategies to restore power. Also, power companies can better monitor consumption patterns and better plan usage patterns and more effectively distribute power accordingly from a regional and single unit monitory. The technology will be very useful in the development of the smart grid technology that is being developed to deliver on the promise of a more effective and efficient usage and distribution of power across the grid.
Currently, STI’s client base includes electric power providers like Entergy , Sempra Energy and non-profit grid operator California ISO as well as corporations with elaborate supply chains like Johnson & Johnson and medical vendor Novartis .
The recent investment came from Opus Capital , a Menlo Park, Calif. firm that has backed several other data management enterprises, including AirGate Technologies and Informatica. Previous investors include SUFI, Start-up Farms Investors Inc.
