Quova Knows Where You Are
By Azam on November 10, 2008Quova has launched a new geolocation service on demand that provides websites ability to pinpoint locations of users for use in customization of content and applications. The on demand services gives business a powerful tool to help customize data their users to provide more specific and local information tailored on their websites. The technology will be useful for geo targeting advertisements for more useful and relevant ads for consumers.
Previously, Quova’s clients had to install actual software on their servers to access the same data. The On-Demand service will let them access data through a continuously-updated feed, and offer a pay-per-query system if they just want to find out bits and pieces on information on users.
Quova uses technology that allows the company to pinpoint users using computers scattered across in the network to bounce signals off of users’ IP addresses and then triangulate their locations. The technology method used is said to be faster and 90% more accurate than other methods being currently used. Previously, the data such as IP location was controlled by ISP who hold data privy for commercial and privacy reasons. Other firms DoubleClick, Akamai and Digital Envoy usually need to partner up with ISP for similar data on location.
Quova has raised about $38 million in total for funding to date from Fidelity Ventures, IDG Ventures, Mobius Venture Capital and Schoffstal Ventures.
