Arista Networks Goes After the Cloud
By Azam on October 23, 2008Arista Networks is going after the cloud computing market with a star team Andy Bechtolsheim, Jayshree Ullal, and David Cheriton to compete with network giant Cisco Systems. Arista Networks is designed a new modular architecture for the cloud computing era and offer a cheaper solution to address the market. The star team behind Arista gives the company credibility going up against Cisco and other well known vendors. Arista has announced recent deployments of their product to clients and further validates their technology model.
“In the upcoming era of cloud computing, the web will be much more thanjust a means of delivering content — it will be a platform in its own right, requiring an extremely scalable cloud networking infrastructure,” said Jayshree Ullal, President and CEO of Arista.”A similar transformation is happening in the enterprise where many customers are consolidating existing datacenters into much larger virtualized computing clouds. We look forward to working with customers of all sizes to solve these important networking challenges.”
Cloud computing requires fundamental improvements in network scalability, reliability, and latency beyond what traditional enterprise networks have offered. Arista’s Cloud Networking Platform will cost-effectively scale to meet the needs of datacenters of all sizes.
A key element of Arista’s Cloud Networking Platform is EOS, its Extensible Operation System. EOS’s unique modular state-sharing design enables self-healing and in-service software updates across the entire network without interruption. In addition, EOS enables third-party extensions for network management integration and automation. These capabilities have been embraced by Arista’s customers.
Arista has been shipping a portfolio of 10 Gigabit Ethernet products since May 2008 to customers in several vertical markets, including financial markets, high-performance computing, public sector, manufacturing, Internet data centers, healthcare, and media/entertainment.
Arista networking modular technology is a key to the company’s strategy and offering to clients. Arista uses off the self networking chips and processors to power the networking gear, and Arista designs networking software to manage the networking gear. Arista focus on networking software is key differentiating and selling points to customers. Arista is able customizes networking software with add on programs and can be designed to handle specialized functions. Clients have the ability to customized Arista networking software for their needs and requirements as well.
Arista Networks, formerly known as Arastra, today announced three customers deploying its Cloud Networking Platform for scalable datacenter and computing environments. Arista announced deployments of technology to Northwestern, BitGravity, and the Lawernce Livemore
labs.
Arista Netoworks is self financed and is not seeking financing at this stage. Arista Networks has been financial backed by the founders Andy and David Chierton.
“We plan to keep it this way,” Mr. Bechtolsheim said. “We can make all the decisions ourselves.”
