Calypso Medical Technologies has raised $20M in Venture debt for Cancer Radiation Devices

Calypso Medical’s platform technology, referred to as GPS for the Body, provides clinicians with continuous, real-time tumor monitoring throughout the treatment process, without adding ionizing radiation. The company’s objective, real-time approach is providing a ‘missing link’ to clinicians for the management of organ motion during radiation therapy delivery. The Calypso System has quickly gained clinical adoption for use of the system for prostate cancer patients at major cancer centers since the product launch in January 2007.
Calypso Medical Technologies, Inc. (”Calypso”) is a Seattle, WA-based privately held medical device company. The Company’s proprietary tumor localization system utilizes miniaturized implanted devices (Beacon electromagnetic transponders) to continuously, accurately, and objectively pinpoint the location of tumors for improved accuracy in radiation therapy. Calypso Medical addresses two major issues in modern radiation oncology: errors in treatment set-up and tumor motion during treatment. In addition, the Calypso®4D Localization System’s non-ionizing electromagnetic guidance has been found to improve work flow efficiency and treatment room utilization. The technology is designed for body-wide cancers commonly treated with radiation therapy, including prostate, breast, lung, head, neck and other radiation therapy target organs. Calypos product has been cleared by FDA 510(k) and is currently being used in the treatment of prostate cancer and prostatic bed.
Previously, Calypso Medical Technologies, Inc., announced closure of its Series D private equity financing, totaling $42.2 million. Calypso Medical investors include Apothecary Capital, LLC, Glenview Capital Management, Pequot Capita, Bay City Frazier Healthcare Ventures, and Versant Ventures.
