Amazon is entering the electronic payments systems with Checkout by Amazon and Amazon Simple Pay. Amazon Checkout allows other e-commerce sites to use Amazon payment system to process transactions with Amazon account use shopping cart handling one click, order management, shipping and sales tax calculations, and other features available. Amazon Simple Pay allows customers to simply remotely sign into their Amazon account to use the payment system process the transaction itself.

Previously, Amazon offered Amazon Flexible Payment System (Amazon FPS) for developers to design payment services using API on Amazon payment infrastructure. Amazon Checkout and Amazon Simple Pay allow small business with limited resources to easily access Amazon infrastructure to handle electronic payments. Amazon service will directly compete with eBay with PayPal and Google Checkout for payment services. Amazon is moving further in bring its technology through web services and making it available for clients and others.

Amazon charges a transaction fee that starts at 2.9 percent of the order amount, plus 30 cents per order and for transactions less than $10, Amazon charges 5 percent plus 5 cents. Amazon reduces fees based on volume above $100,000 in monthly sales the percentage is reduced to 1.9 percent.

Amazon is taking advantage of a well proven large scalable infrastructure developed to handle very large and dynamic site and opening the available services to others. Amazon is described as the largest online commerce site and seems to keep expanding outside the box. Amazon is proving that technology and e commerce can truly scale beyond physical limits of traditional brick and mortar.
