The Service “Product Purchase “
Evan Young, TiVo’s broadband-services director, said the deal will allow its viewers “to purchase products related to their favorite TV shows or that they’ve seen in TV ads without leaving their couch.” The move highlights the ever-growing importance of product placement in television shows and commercial choices. For example, fans of shows aimed at tweens try to emulate the fashion seen on TV, looking in local stores for exact replicas of outfits.
Tivo and Advertising
Tivo came is to prominence with time shifting technology and ability to skip over commercials on your favorite show. The technology was seen as very disruptive and a nightmare to advertisers and the content owners that feared low of revenues due to technology involved with Tivo DVR. Tivo model is evolving to take advantage of viewers and their interests on screen. TiVo plans to change the way we experience content and our view of advertising by making more appealing by being relevant and interactive experience. The idea is a long term dream of combining the remote/set top box and buy transaction for content providers and advertisers to monetize content more effectively through targeting the viewer behavior and interests.
“Just a few years ago, we were viewed with great paranoia as the disruptor,” Thomas Rogers, chief executive of TiVo, told the newspaper. “Our goal now is to work with the media industry to come up with ways to resist the downward pressure of less advertising viewing and create a way for advertising on TV to become more effective, more engaging, and closer to the sale.”
