Apple iPhone does 1M and 10M Apps Downloaded
By Azam on July 15, 2008Apple has announced the company sold over 1 million iPhones and had 10 million downloads from the App Store on the iPhone 3Gs opening weekend. Despite some installation problems, Apple IPhone seems like a blockbuster weekend success. Analysts have predicted that Apple has hit its target of selling 10M phones this year.
In the press release, Steve Job points out that “It took 74 days to sell the first one million original iPhones, so the new iPhone 3G is clearly off to a great start around the world.”
Also Jobs commented on IPhone Appstore
“The App Store is a grand slam, with a staggering 10 million applications downloaded in just three days,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “Developers have created some extraordinary applications, and the App Store can wirelessly deliver them to every iPhone and iPod touch user instantly.”
Apple still has a way to go to reach Nokia in dominance of the handset market and the smart phone. Apple launch into the international markets marks the start of the competition overseas. Nokia currently commands 45.2& market share followed by Blackberry RIM with 13.4% in the Smartphone category accordingly to Gartner. Apple in the study holds 5.3% market share.
