Real Time Worlds Online Gaming receives 50M Funding

The Dundee Scotland based gaming company, Real Time Worlds announced today the closing of an investment round of  $50 million in venture capital to fund its online gaming ventures and upcoming release of All Points Bulletin.

The round was led by Maverick Capital and existing investors New Enterprise Associates and WPP also participated. Real Time Worlds is run by founder David Jones, the creator of the original Grand Theft Auto of Rock Star games that has become one of the biggest video game franchises of all time. EA is trying to acquired Take Two the current publisher of GTA franchise for 2B or $26 a share.

In an exclusive partnership with Microsoft Game Studios, RTW launched its first title, Crackdown, on Xbox 360 in early 2007. It broke records for demo downloads, sold 1.5 million copies and estimated 84M at the retail level.  In addition, RTW Studio picked up multiple awards including prestigious Develop Industry Excellence awards and BAFTA nominations.

RTW is currently working on All Points Bulletin, a massively multiplayer online game being created in partnership with  Webzen a Korean  based online gaming company, due out in 2008.
