Christina Domecq, CEO and co-founder of SpinVox, said although the use of social networks and micro-blogging sites has exploded in the past few years, “they’ve lacked true mobility and so are not achieving their full potential.” She said this new technology enables user to share their “thoughts, emotions and experiences ‘in the moment’ as and when they happen.”
“The launch of the social networks through SpinVox service is a further groundbreaking development for Web 2.0, which is largely characterised by the power it gives users to generate and share their own content,” she said. “SpinVox is a natural interface between online and mobile worlds - and is already in use by LiveJournal users in the blogosphere - enabling the power of Web 2.0 communities to go truly mobile.”
The company has been catching on with carriers having signed on with 11 carriers. The European company has ability to translate in a number of languages: English French German and Spanish. On the social networking front, SpinVox works on several social networks like facebook, twitter, and Jaiku. The company recently rose 100M and will try to expand offering and lock in partnership with carriers.
The company has raised 100M additional funds in a third round from Goldman, GLG, Blue Mountain and Tosca Fund. The company earlier raised 100M form investors Allen & Co, Gartmore, ABN Ambro, and private individuals.
The market and competition is growing in the market for similar applications form Pinger, Jott, Simulscribe, and GotVoice. Interesting a number of these voice start up are located in Seattle, Washington region. Microsoft had acquired Tellme which brought voice search technology to telecom, and Micosoft has its own impressive effort in voice recognition software that work with their own applications which are very impressive.
